We welcome you on the pages of our Curiosity Shop. 
It is created by the Russian language center in Hong Kong in order to help you to learn more about Russia and Russian culture. 


What do we offer? 
We offer you to learn and choose interesting things about Russia - books, DVD, CD with Russian music, Russian deli, crafts and so on. 


How do we offer it?
We tell you about interesting stuff here in our blog. Then as you choose something and pay, we'd order it in Russia and pass it to you. 


What if you doubt what to choose?
We organize the FAIR of the Curiosity shop in the Russian language center, where you can enjoy the variety of books, crafts or deli and buy it there. But you may first order it and then find it in the FAIR - in this case you will get it for sure. 


How do you pay?
You pay by cash directly to the Russian language center or through the PayPal (for this purpose you should send the order to the e-mail below and then you will receive the invoice to your e-mail). 
To get your stuff, you may come to the office of the Russian Language Center and take it or you may pay for the courier and receive it directly at home. 


If you come and feel that don't like your stuff (and the reason is serious) we will return money to you.

Russian deli - Zephyr

Zephyr (let's call it marshmallow, still the taste is quite different) is a kind of sugar confectionery; it is made of fruit-berry puree mixed with sugar and egg white, then any of the formative fillings is required: pectin, agar syrup, gelatin (marmalade) mass.

Zephyr is known may years, it was first cooked and popular in ancient Greece, where it received its name from the god Zephyr who, according to mythology, gave this recipe to people.

As  the marshmallow is based on fruit puree, this pleasant deli is undoubtedly useful! Thanks to therein carbohydrate this snowy snack promotes mental activity, and is good for digestion, says wiki.

Russian Market

Dear friends!

We are happy to invite you to the Russian market which will take place on the Russian Language Day on the 9th of June 2012.

The fair is organised by the Russian Language Center.

At our fair you may choose and buy the following

• Russian books, fiction and materials for learning Russian
• Russian souvenirs, handicraft, dolls in national costumes, bags and jewellery with ethnic prints
• Original t-shirt by RLC
• Hand-made toys by Russian puppet-masters
• Russian deli (chocolate, ‘pastila’, Russian marshmallow)
• And of course Russian home-made deli !

You may help us to make the fair more interesting and useful for you! For this purpose we invite you to our blog-shop ‘Russian curiosity shop’ where we introduce these interesting things for you. You may see what books we will offer you, you may order something and receive it during the fair or tell us what you are looking for and we will find it for you!

If you have something to share or to sell (souvenirs, books, dvd) or you can cook any Russian dish and you would like to take part in our fair – let us know immediately and we’d be happy to take you in!

Russian style bag with matryoshka

Matryoshka - is a traditional Russian nesting doll, usually made of wood 

It is a set of wooden dolls of decreasing size placed one inside the other. 

The first Russian nested doll set was carved in 1890 by Vasily Zvyozdochkin from a design by Sergey Malyutin, who was a folk crafts painter at Abramtsevo. Traditionally the outer layer is a woman, dressed in a sarafan, a long and shapeless traditional Russian peasant jumper dress. The figures inside may be of either gender; the smallest, innermost doll is typically a baby lathed from a single piece of wood. Much of the artistry is in the painting of each doll, which can be very elaborate (c)

Chocolate

Unfortunately, not many people know that Russian chocolate is extremely delicious. Old traditional choco factories produce choco bars which have become almost symbols of the Russian culture.

One of the most popular choco companies is 'The Red October".

The factory used to be situated on the bank of the river Moskva, the sweet and warm aroma of the chocolate accompanied all the river voyages and walks along the river! Before becoming 'The Red October', the factory used to belong to another choco company 'Einem'.

I won't be mistaken if I say that the bar 'Alyonka' (АЛЕНКА) has become the face of the company. Now it belongs to the company "Объединенные кондитеры".

Copy-book to learn or to improve your Russian writing alphabet

In Russian language there are two types of the alphabet - the printing one that you meet in the books. and the writing one - which we learn to use at school. It is almost a Russian calligraphy. It also takes time, it is also very beautiful and for many people it is really difficult to write in a nice proper way!
